Thinking of Choosing your Wedding Cake

Wedding Cakes
When ready to choose your wedding cake, there are a number of factors that a bride needs to consider.
When it comes to the style of your cake, take inspiration from your colour scheme, venue and even details on your wedding dress.
A good wedding cake designer will ask for as much detail of your big day as possible to help him or her come up with some suitable ideas. Let him or her know what type of flowers you are having, what the style of your dress is, even what the bridesmaids will be wearing.
When choosing your cake designer, ask to see examples of cakes they have already made and be sure to have a taste - it's important that a cake tastes as good as it looks.
When it comes to the cake filling, while fruit cake is the traditional choice, there are many other options such as carrot cake, lemon cake, and, of course, chocolate. You might even decide to have a different cake flavour for each tier.
Consider having a cake that's slightly bigger than you need. That way, you can save a slice for guests unable to attend, and enjoy some when you get back from honeymoon. Bear in mind that fruit cake is the only filling that will still taste great a few months after the wedding.
Be sure to cater for guests with nut allergies. Some cake makers will make nut-free cakes, or you could have a small cake (perhaps a fairy cake) created especially for them. Alternatively, you need to let guests with allergies know they should avoid the cake.
Consider serving your cake in the evening, or instead of pudding.
This beautiful Birdcage was hand - made using Petal Paste and encrusted with Swarvoski Crystals. Thereafter the birds were made from modelling paste and set on their perch.
Choosing the Cake Maker
Start by talking to friends and family and ask for their recommendations. Go to Wedding Fairs and view the cakes as it is a good way of obtaining ideas. Remember the cakes on display are faux (fake) cakes and its easier to get a flawless finish on these. The cakes on this hub are real Wedding Cakes photographed at different venues.
Any cake shop will be registered with their local enviromental health council for checks and their food and hygiene certificates displayed. When using a home decorator ask if they are registered with their local council, also ask to see their food and hygiene certificates.
Inquire if they have won any competitions etc
Ask to see any pictures of cakes they've done as they should be plentiful of ideas and information.
Think about weather you want to go for a Traditional Wedding Cake, or a Contemporary Wedding Cake or even a Bespoke Wedding Cake.
